The Department is halfway through Fiscal Year 2008 and winding down the hiring process for two full-time Officers. One vacancy is a new hire and one is a replacement hire. We still will not realize any solid gains until after their Basic Academy and Field Training, which should be in late winter of 2009.
Because of severe economic conditions facing our country, this Department has seen a surge in calls for service over the first six months from 6,800 last year to 8,161 this year. Our drug investigations have skyrocketed, necessitating the assignment of an Officer to that endeavor.
We are still intending to budget for at least one more Patrol Officer in 2009 and readers should expect to see more about our intentions as we enter the year.
Please be reminded that the Department remains thoroughly committed to each of our residents and to our professional delivery of police services.
Thank you,
Stephen C. Savage,
Chief of Police
